Indian Cricket League Twenty20 Vs Indian Premier League Twenty20

The Indian Cricket League Twenty20 Vs Indian Premier League Twenty20 cricket

The Board of Control of Cricket in India or the BCCI has launched the Indian Premier League Twenty20 cricket tournament, in response to the recently launched Indian Cricket League Twenty20

The ostensible purpose of the Indian Premier League Twenty20 cricket tournament is to put a dampener on the high flying Indian Cricket League promoted by Zee Television. With Indian cricket ’s great allrounder Kapil Dev promoting the Indian Premier League Twenty20 cricket tournament, the BCCI was in danger of losing its monopoly over Indian cricket.

In response, the BCCI has launched its own Twenty20 cricket format, the Indian Premier League, and has promised that the world’s best cricketers will participate in this Twenty20 cricket tournament

The Twenty20 Indian Premier League of cricket will reduce the dependence of the BCCI on the fortunes of brand “India”

The BCCI is of course world cricket’s most rich institution. In fact, the BCCI is one of the richest sports institutions in the world

The greatest risk to the BCCI currently is the failure of the Indian cricket team, which leads to a huge loss in advertising revenues for its broadcasters as seen in the cricket World cup and thereby the BCCI stands to lose in the long run

By promoting the Twenty20 Indian cricket league that transcends national boundaries, the BCCI ensures that its revenue model is unaffected by the changing fortunes of the Indian cricket team

The Indian Cricket League like Twenty20 format was inevitable as cricket becomes a professional sport

The Twenty20 Indian Cricket League format is part of the natural progression of cricket as a professional sport. Any successful professional sport such as basketball and baseball has relegated matches between national sports teams to secondary status, while the professional league takes on primary importance

The Twenty20 Indian Cricket League format could now replace bilateral cricket contests and establish itself as the primary league for the world’s best cricketers
